Malahide Toastmasters meet at the Grand Hotel Malahide at 8 pm on the 2nd
and 4th Wednesday of each month from September to May.
Toastmasters is about people developing their public speaking
and leadership skills by practising in a comfortable sociable environment
with other learners.
Toastmasters is a worldwide non-profit educational
organisation founded by Dr. Ralph Smedley in 1924.
The
Malahide Toastmasters Club (No. 2360) was founded in 1981. Members tend to
remain members for many years. This is a testament to the enthusiasm,
hospitality and commitment of members to the club. It is also due to the
educational benefits, experience gained, leadership and assertiveness skills
acquired and the sociable friendly atmosphere of the club.
Through Toastmasters members of all ages
and from all walks of life improve their speech making, communication and
leadership skills. This in turn leads to improved technical and presentation
skills in their work environment and their everyday life.

Have you ever listened to a speaker at a wedding, a dinner, social gathering
etc, and thought to yourself ‘I wish I could speak like that!’ Well you
could and you will with the experience, techniques and preparation skills
learned at Toastmasters. It is not something gained or learned overnight, it
is acquired through participation in the club on a regular basis -
listening, evaluating, and learning from others at your own speed in a
comfortable enthusiastic environment.
Come along on your own or with a friend some evening and see for yourself.

I joined
Toastmasters to learn how to make PowerPoint presentations but what I
found even more valuable was learning how to "talk on my feet", i.e.
responding to questions with two minute answers that have a structure: a
beginning, middle and end. From listening to others, I have also learned
how to (occasionally) put an amusing slant on some topics. Treasa |
"I joined Toastmasters to
improve my speaking in public (meetings, parties, dinners, church,
anywhere). It's now much easier than I thought at first!". Brian
For me Toastmasters has
always been the welcome and friendliness of the people. Even going on your
own you’re bound to make friends or at the very least some very good
acquaintances. I had to address the people where I work when we had a Mass
for the late Sheila Byrne, had I not been in Toastmasters I never would have
addressed this assembly even though it was only for a few minutes. Vera
What I like best is that you
always pick up a little wisdom/insight at nearly every meeting. What keeps
me going to Toastmasters is when I commit myself to do a task at the next
meeting. Stephen

The
topics section helps you with impromptu speaking. Listening skills are
developed - you learn not to interrupt especially in your everyday
conversations. You learn so much from others - history, news, all sorts
of facts and figures, jokes etc. and meet a whole new set of friends and
acquaintances. Carmel |
I attend Toastmasters
meetings to continuously learn from others in a relaxed, stimulating,
friendly and encouraging environment. Paul
When I first went to
Toastmasters I thought it would involve a lot of talking, maybe even
"toasting". What I found in fact was that Toastmasters is about listening,
and I've developed more communication skills through listening than I ever
could have imagined. Topics is my favourite part of the meeting. I could
listen all night to clever, compassionate, composed and even comic people
speak extempore on a variety of subjects. At our club meeting you tend to
know everyone’s "position" on various topics, there is therefore a great
sense of anticipation when the topic questions are asked. Treasa
If you think Toastmasters might be of interest to you come
along as a guest some evening and see for yourself with no pressure to join.
